Fooling around in the cold

This something simple I wore some days ago for going out for a coffee.

Nothing extravagant but very warm as the weather is extremely cold these last few days.

There is a possibility it snows where I live so I'm pretty excited and I wish it does!

I imagine you are aware that sales have started in Greece and although I didn't want to spend more money after the holidays I couldn't resist buying a few very good offers from Zara.

One of those offers are the shoes you can see me wearing which I got for only 10€ (original prize I think 40€).I also got this knitted jumper half prize, a few tops for 10€ and a pair of boyfriend jeans that were on offer.It's difficult for me to change my love for skinny jeans as I adore them but I have to admit that although boyfriend jeans are not as flattering as skinny jeans they are soooo comfy and stylish.

This is something I made some days ago with a jumper I bought a long time ago from Yesterdays bread - a second hand shop in Athens.It was really soft and in good condition except for some minor holes so I decided to decorate it with some buttons hiding the holes and making it a little different.

The jumper costed something like 5 euros or maybe 3 - I can't remember exactly- and the buttons were salvaged by old clothes.Dead cheap D.I.Y project,don't you think?

Happy New Year everybody!!

I hope you all had a fantastic time during your holidays!

Every new year I make a complicated list of resolutions.
Well this year my resolutions are very different than usual.
In past I used to focus on things like studies,carier,buying new stuff and mainly material things.
Well the start of 2012 finds me in a very fragile emotional stage,somehow drained and lost from everything.
Horrible words such as economical crisis and proffessional unstability,personal life problems that make me very sad and a general bad atmosphere everywhere around me certainly can't leave me unaffected.
So this year I'm not making any specific resolutions.
I just have some things I wish I experience in 2012 and I hope all of you do too.

Laughter

Real,unrestrained and without thinking laughter.
Having people in your life that make you laugh is so important.

Love

Falling in love ,being loved and sharing love all around you.

Love is all you need.

Health

Don't take your health as granted.Eat well,exercise and take care of yourself.

Creativity

Think outside of the ordinary.You can do it.

Be creative in all possible ways.

This is possibly one of the nicest D.I.Y decoration ideas I've seen online lately.

All you need is a canvas ,wax crayons,a hot glue gun and a hairdryer.

You glue the crayons on the top of the canvas and then you melt them with the hairdryer.So simple!

It's amazing how the crayons melt leaving a watercolour effect on the canvas.You should definitely try this for yourself!

This is a sneak preview of one of my living room corners- I like to think of it as a reading corner.

You can see the colour I decided to paint the wall which is a brown with mauve undertones.

It actually depends on the light and angle but I think it mostly looks like chocolate milk!

The other canvas is also something I made -nothing special just some colours mixed together.

There is still work to be done and putting more books on the shelves but I'm getting there.

When I was young I never liked my curly hair.Embracing the fact that my hair is and will always be curly took a while but now I'm happy and I really like the fact I have curly hair.Many people easily say "Oh straight hair suits you why don't you have them chemically straightened?" and my answer is always negative.Firstly,I don't want to ruin my hair,secondly it WILL grow back curly and curly roots with straight ends is not my cup of tea and lastly I hate people that just want me to have "normal" hair.Why on earth do they call straight hair normal and curly abnormal?Why on earth should I torture myself and spend either 2 hours doing them on my own or going to the hairdresser to have them straight just for someone to think I'm normal?

All this misconception about straight hair being way much nicer than curly hair is evident in movies in which we find the stereotypical transformation of the girl with big frizzy (kind of scruffy) curly hair to the immaculate straight hair goddess. For an example just see "The princess diaries" where Anne Hathaway has super frizzy hair in the beginning but when she becomes a princess she just had to have straight hair!I mean you can style curly hair and remove frizz but princesses just HAVE to have straight hair!

Sorry for this long rant but I suppose if you're also a curly haired girl you'll feel the same way as I do!

This is more of a note to the 15year old me to say that curly hair is amazing you just need to learn how to style it and love it!I only wish I then knew how to manage my hair and wouldn't end up having a ponytail of frizz everyday!

On Saturday I visited Holy Room the showroom of Holy Mustache for his seventy percent off sales and november collection bazzar.

Holy Mustache can be described as a gury of vintage clothing and his showroom has a vast collection of vintage clothes,shoes and assecories.I only took pictures from the outside of the showroom as when I got inside the only thing I could think about was the clothes. After a really long time I managed to get myself together and do an outfit post!

I just realised it's been a while since I've wrote anything related to my house renovation.

Hopefully painting the kitchen will be finished today as I still have to paint the blackboard wall I was telling you about here.

One of my major concerns has been that when I emptied the living room and moved all the heavy furniture my grandmother had I realised how massive the room was.Many ideas passed from my head and a while ago as I was walking through Ikea I saw a back-less bookcase and I immediately thought about using it as a room divider.When I got home I googled room divider and I found loads of pictures of people having used the same bookcase to divide large rooms.So until I construct mine -hopefully they'll be delivered today- have a look at some cool photos!

A year ago I was sitting in my room taking a rather unusual for my personality decision...

but lets start from the beginning...

Since I was really young I used to read fashion magazines of all sorts.I loved reading magazines both Greek and international and I was lucky as my mum is English and always bought loads of English ones- which I passionately collected and have until today.The fact that I loved clothes and I had a strong personal opinion about them was apparent also from a young age as my only big argument I've ever had with my Dad was at age 8 when I literally screamed my lungs out and broke hell loose because my Mum had made me wear something I didn't like.

As I grew a little bit older this habit advanced with the ease of the Internet...I still remember that one of the very first things I googled -at times we only had dial-up connections- was how hippies used to dress back at those days and in general all about their style.I always thought this interest in clothes as something normal -although my friends didn't really seem to share it- and to be honest it never actually occurred to me that made I should study something related to it.

The years slowly passed and although I always took interest in clothes, enjoyed shopping and reading everything I could about fashion most of the times I felt completely lost when it came to my personal style.It was like something was blocking me and not allowing me to dare to wear what I liked.I can think of many reasons that caused this but I'll keep it short and mainly blame my low self-confidence and fear of being different.Honestly, despite liking fashion I'm not that really fascinated by brands and showing off expensive bags full of logos.I don't criticize people that enjoy these sort of things but for me it is far more important to like something because it pleases my aesthetics and not solely because it's an expensive brand.Once I was even told by a friend that my major drawback style-wise was not buying brands just like other girls and that a LV bag would save my style...as if good style is so easy as that!

Around three years ago I discovered the world of blogs and especially fashion blogs.I don't know how I found out or which was the first blog I read but I was completely hooked!I found out more and more bloggers that took beautiful pictures,posted very interesting outfits,had a strong personal style and expressed their feelings and fears which I could relate to.Many times I though that I would like to have my own blog and write about things that interest me-especially fashion- and post photographs of things I like but I was always afraid and in the end I never did anything.

However one day in August last year something changed inside me.It all started when I just got fed up with the way I never had the courage to wear what I really want and how I always preferred to stay safe and boring although I had so many ideas.So I challenged myself to face my fears,start this blog and never again block my own creativity and inspiration.I don't claim being a fashion expert or an expert of any kind but I try to be real ,push my own limits and write about things that truly interest me.

I think I've written far too much but I felt that this is the right time to say these things...

I prefer to think that when something beautiful ends -such as summer holidays- it gives place to something even more beautiful such as a year full of happy moments,inspiration and hard but enjoyable work.That's why I'm not that sad summer's almost gone...I've got many things in my mind that will take place this winter and I can't wait for them to happen!I known that for many people January is the start of a new year and time for New Year's resolutions but I've always felt September as the month of new beginnings and decision making!It's a bittersweet feeling knowing that holidays are over but new things are starting.......

These are my new faux leather shorts I bought from my last trip at Primark when I was in Newcastle last week.I paired them with a simple white top from H&M,a belt that was with a dress from Zara and my favourite white sandals.

I'm so happy the weekend is approaching as it's really warm in Greece these days and I really want to go swimming!Only a week and a few days left until I'll be officially on holiday and I'm already excited!

Simple Cheesecake

Hey everybody!!Hope you are all doing fine!

My cold seems to be a lot better today and I'm back to normal activities!

So lets get things straight from the very start.

Don't be deceived by the following pictures.

By no means am I a skilled cook or close to being an experienced cook.

However,I love sweets and the main reason I make them is well...~~pleasing my friends~~ ,~~taking nice pictures of them,~~ well just eating them. I though I'd share this with you and especially if you love sweets!

One of the recipes I really like doing is a simple cheesecake recipe I found and changed a bit according to my taste.It's nothing difficult and it's quite quick to make.

You will need:

600gr of Cream Cheese

400gr of Digestive Biscuits

250ml of Cooking Cream

200gr of powdered sugar

150gr of butter

Whatever fruit you like for the topping.

1. Put the biscuits in a mixer and crush them until the become into small pieces.

Beware !!!Do not leave big chunks or do not go overboard and make them into powder.

*I'm guilty for both.

2.So now you've got them all crushed, lay them in your baking pan.I used a springform baking pan so it's easier to serve.Lay the crushed biscuits in the pan evenly and press them. Melt the butter and sprinle the top of the biscuit base.You need to be careful at this stage and press the base so everything stays together.I used the bottom of a glass for pressing!

3. Now put the baking pan in a preheated oven (180 celcius) for 10 minutes.When the ten minutes pass take the pan out of the oven and leave it in room temperature to cool.

4. Take a large bowl and put the cream cheese ,cooking cream and half of the powdered sugar inside and mix with a mixer.Keep going on until you end up with a creamy quite fluffy mixture.

5.The reason I suggested putting in only half of the sugar dosage is cause now you will have to make a decision.Wash your hands (if you haven't already...) and with your finger try the mixture.

Some people like cheesecakes more sweet than others so it's your decision how much more sugar you want to add.Plus if you are topping the cheesecake with extra sweet fruit or even fruit marmalade I would suggest staying with half the sugar dosage.

6.Now the cream is done, with a large spoon gently put it on the base.It's preferable the pan is not very hot from the oven and at room temperature so it doesn't affect the cream.

7.It's time to make the topping!I've done this recipe more than once and I've experimented with different toppings.My favourite is fresh fruit.Here I've used sliced apricots but you can also use other fruit such as peaches,cherries,fruit marmalades or as I once did caramel syrup... (yes that is not fruit).

When you finish with the topping just put the cheesecake in the fridge for minimum 2 hours to set.

Then.....Enjoy!!And if there is anything left...share it...

Trust me I lived a year in Newcastle and a sunny day is quite rare!!!However it was still cold compared to Athens.Imagine my temperature shock going from 35 degrees in Athens to 15 in Newcastle.No wonder I'm sick with a horrible cold and fever.I don't think there is anything worse than having a cold during a heatwave.It may sound weird but I'd rather go to work than have to stay at home feeling this crappy.Anyway,I hope to get better soon!!!!

I survived from a sea of teacups and doilies

These last few days have been packed with things like painting,cleaning,moving heavy furniture and packing a monsterous amount of tea sets my grandmother owned.Seriously I don't know why people in the past used to have sooo many sets of teacups and doilies.

But even thought I'm terribly tired I'm very happy about the colours I painted the living room.There is a detailed post coming soon with pictures but I have to say that pictures don't do justice to the perfect chocolate-mauve colour that all my friends agreed looks like chocolate milk and one of them was even tempted to drink the paint while painting!Tomorrow I'm waiting for my new camera so I hope I can take a more decent picture that shows the colours more realistically.

Until I get the post about the living room ready these are some pictures of what I wore yesterday to my trip to Ikea and River West.There I visited the first Next shop and Peacocks Londons in Athens at River West mall.Next was exactly the same style as the British store just smaller however I think the prices were kind of expensive.To be honest I rarely shop clothes at Next but I usually like their bags ,belts and shoes.

Peacocks was quite nice with simple clothes and a lot of basics tops,maxi dresses and shoes- okay I admit I bought a pair of sandals- and the prices were normal.

This dates back to 1925 in Chios where my great-grandmother

These last few days have been quite hectic and tiring as I've been going on non-stop!

My most recent news is that tidying up the house in order to be able to paint has proven more difficult than I expected as I'm always tired from work.However ,I'm trying to overcome it and Saturday I'm starting with painting the living room.

But enough with the house project as I think it has been a while since I've posted an outfit or just posted anything actually!So I thought I should post one of my latest favourite outfits.This simple navy dress has literally saved me as I've been wearing it all the time with different colours,belts,bags and etc.It is so versatile and so comfortable!At these pictures you can also see a clutch bag I've also "borrowed" from my grandmother.

Chalkboard Walls

These last few days I've been looking around finding ideas for painting my house.

One of the ideas I've liked the most and decided to do is to paint one of my kitchen walls with chalkboard paint.

I absolutely love the idea of a huge canvas on the kitchen wall and I've already thought things I'd like to draw and write.

The rest of the kitchen will be painted a light beige colour so I don't think one black wall will be off-putting.

As for those who are afraid of the dust chalk leaves behind you can buy special plastic chalk that doesn't leave any residue.

Summer Shopping List part one

Summertime is officially here!I just can't wait to wear my summer clothes, go swimming and most of all stop work and go on some much needed vacations!However,the weather is still weird in Athens as although its quite hot it's also rainy and this very very annoying especially if you are planning to go to the beach and then you realise its about to rain.Anyway, I'll try not to moan although it seems to be the only thing I'm inclined to do today...grumpy is my middle name.

To cheer me up and get me out of my dark moaning phase I decided to make a small summer shopping list with things I want.One of the things that are on the top of my list is finding a one-piece swimsuit that will suit me.

Unfortunately I can't really seem to find one that I like as I keep finding either too old-fashioned ones or really revealing ones.However I've only looked online and I still have to get out and search the stores.

These are just a few things I've seen and think of getting:

H&M Swimsuit

1. One piece swimsuit. This one of the few swimsuits I actually like but I'm not quite sure yet if it will look good when I try it on.

2.A simple white top with a twist.A simple white top is essential for summer,I really don't think there such thing as too many white tops.

3. This necklace.Okay I admit this was not on the list as something I needed but I like it!!

4.A jersey dress. I really like these dresses for wearing after the beach or just for a very hot summer morning.

I named this list part one because I have more stuff in my mind and I'm sure there will be a part two following soon.Until then I'm continuing the quest of finding a one piece swimsuit I really really like and feel confident wearing.

Hi everyone!

It feels like a century since my last post or anything to do with blogging actually.

The last few days have been quite weird and completely out of my normal routine.

For starters I went to Chios island for my cousins wedding and the baptism of his child!

Although I knew that he had a child and was already married with a civil marriage I felt very emotional when I saw him in church and I was kind of shocked as my cousin is only a year older than me.

However my trip to Chios will not only be remembered as a trip for my cousins marriage as it has led to a change in my life. Going there allowed me to make some necessary discussions and from yesterday I've started renovating my grandmothers house in order to be able to move in at some point.

Renovating the house and decorating it has been one thing that I've wanted for a long long time and finally my dream has been fulfilled.The house is in a pretty good condition and the only problem is that it is full of very old and "heavy" furniture creating a rather stale and very old fashioned atmosphere.It is remarkable how times and aesthetics change and how old must give way to new stuff in order for life to move on.

Most of the stuff will be made by myself and my fantastic friends that have volunteered to help me.I'm mainly going to repair,restore,paint and construct the furniture and decorative stuff using what I already have as I want to make the place unique and not spend a fortune when it's not really necessary.So expect some posts with D.I.Y , ideas for transforming a house and generally of whatever I'm going to make such as curtains,paintings and small furniture.I really look forward of firstly cleaning the place , painting it and decorating it.

So enought said it's time for change...

I wouldn't say that blue was always my favourite colour but this summer I can say that I've got a crush with... royal blue.I've already invested in shoes and a top in this colour and I can't wait wearing these with summer outfits.

I think I'll keep it in mind as way of transforming one of my old T-shirt.

It's a pity something so beautiful like this house stays abandoned and in bad shape.

I just wish I had loads of money so I could restore a building like this.

Ideas for wearing maxi skirts

A while ago a friend and I were shopping in Zara and found a really nice maxi skirt.We both liked it but we felt intimidated buying it cause neither of us had ever worn a maxi skirt.With maxi dresses you just put the dress on and then accessorize but with maxi skirts I had a difficulty thinking of something else other than my classic white tank top for wearing on top of the skirt.Basically,my major fear was wearing something that would make me look like a nun or something that would make me look drowned in fabric as I'm not model-like tall!

Even thought I was kind of skeptical I bought the maxi skirt and hoped for the best a.k.a finding tips and inspiration on magazines,blogs and all over the net!So I thought I would share with you a few of my findings about how to wear maxi skirts!

1.The most obvious choice is to wear a fitted tank top either monochrome or with a print.This works well with petite girls as showing some flesh on top balances the maxi dress.You can also try the colour-block trend of this season by choosing bold colours for your top and your skirt.

2.Another choice is to wear maxi skirts with T-shirts both plain or with prints.

3.Cropped tops also work well with maxi skirts but this combination can be a bit tricky as you need the appropriate body.

4. A combination I also like and would like to try is wearing maxi skirts with shirts creating a menswear look especially if you wear them with brogues and tailored jackets.

5.Maxi skirts are not only for tall and slim girls as shorter and more curvy girls can also wear maxi dresses in flattering way. Shorter girls can blend a similar coloured top and skirt with high heels creating the illusion of a taller body. Maxi skirts when worn right can also compliment larger sizes as they hide problematic areas and can create a very feminine look.

These are just a few ideas of ways to wear maxi skirts!

Hi everyone!Hope you are all doing fine.Unfortunately I haven't been very well the last few days as I have a cold!Anyway,I hope I get better soon and not feel as crappy as I feel this moment.

This is something simple I wore a few days ago when I had my hair straightened.I don't really know if I prefer my hair straight or just naturally curly.Some people prefer me with straight hair and others prefer my curly hair.

What do you think?A guy at work even told me that he prefers my 'poodle' hair cause it's unusual and I shouldn't make my hair like everybody else's!

Summer is finally approaching and the weather is getting warmer and warmer meaning it's time for wearing my favourite summer clothes!!
One of my favourite combinations for summer is mixing stripes with floral prints.
I've still not managed to actually wear something similar as I can't seem to find a stripy top that I really like but I'll get there!

Fabric Bangles

A few days ago I was looking on Asos website and saw a bracelet that I reallly liked.

I got tempted to buy it but then out of nowhere I had an idea of making my own fabric bangle out of pieces of fabric I've got laying around.

So this what I came up with!!

They are quite easy to make althought you need a sewing machine and some basic sewing skills.

I'm thinking of making more of them and wearing them all together especially with summer dresses.

Happy Easter everyone!!!I wish you all the best!

Some days ago I went for some shopping and got my self an Easter present!I was determined to buy only colourful stuff to get me in a summery mood so I bought two skirts and a pair of high-heel sandals all full of colour!I couldn't wait to wear my new stuff and yesterday I wore one of the skirts.I know the outfit doen't look very summery but it's still quite cold and windy in Greece especially at night so I had to cover up.

I'll have to wait for a while until the weather gets a bit warmer so I can wear my electric-blue sandalls but I'll be patient!

The weather lately in Greece has not been very spring-like as the last few days have been rainy and cold.

A bracelet of memories

Easter holidays are finally here!!!

I feel so pleased I'm going to have a week off work!I plan doing things I've not been able to do such as sleeping,relaxing,giving my room a much needed organising as my closet is literally on my bed.

Today I also fixed my computer and did some updating as my laptop was getting really really slow althought it is fairly new as it was crammed with stuff!As it seems I've got issues with clutter and keeping a zillion things either on my pc either in my closet or maybe generally in life!

However,keeping things is not always a bad thing to do as many of my old clothes have been re-used after alterations or just worn in a different way.This is the case of the bracelet in the following picture which I've had for many years and was one of my first buys from a flea market in Athens when I was about 15.I still wear it occasionally and it always reminds me of certain happy memories.

Isn't nice to have things that carry their own memories?

Days are steadily getting warmer and warmer and finally I can wear my favourite summer clothes.

One of the things that immediately puts me in a summer mood is wearing something turquoise so I couldn't resist buying this bracelet from Accessorize.

I usually don't wear baggy trousers but this year I've decided to give them a try.

My verdict?I like them a lot as they are really comfy and easy to wear

However,I have to admit that deep down I'm still a skinny jeans addict.

These last few days I've been working with the fabrics I've bought trying to make a jersey top.

As I was cutting the fabric for my top I was left with some small pieces of fabric.

But even the smallest piece of fabric has a use so I decided to make some brooches with the way I've showed you in my previous post.

The main difference is that instead of making a necklace I 've sewn and then glued a brooch clasp.

I chose some gold buttons from my mum's huge box of old buttons.

It's very useful to have a box especially for storing buttons and in case you have clothes you don't want -and can't recycle and etc- don't forget to remove and keep the buttons as the can be re-used!

Markus Linnenbrink was born in 1961 in Germany and studied in Berlin's Academy of Fine Arts. He has exhibited his work in numerous galleries and exhibitions worldwide and is currently based in U.S.A.

He mainly works with resin as a material which allows him to create his characteristic oozing effect

of multiple colour hues and three dimensional projects.

One of his latest works is his collaboration with Swatch designing two watches that showcase perfectly his design aesthetic.I really like the names given to the watches.The one on the left is named 'We're all gonna die' and the one on the right is named 'Time is never enough'.Do you like them?

Swapped Shorts!

Last Saturday as I was getting dressed I realised that I never actually found time to show you any of the clothes I got from the Swap not Shop event!I've been wearing some of them quite often especially a black shirt and the denim shorts you can see in the pictures. I paired my "swapped" shorts with black and more black -as always- for a casual outfit as I was in no mood for dressing up. I have more clothes from the event I'd like to show you but they are currently stacked in the "To do" basket for light fixing and recycling.Also I've finished making a mini-skirt so expect a post soon showing off my hard work!

As Karl Lagerfeld noted 'The world is a dark place'.This dark atmosphere was also evident in the choice of music-an orchestral version of Cure's 'A Forest'. One of my favourite outfits from the collection are the jackets and coats ,especially those who incorporate the classic Chanel dogtooth jacket with men's jackets. I also love the tweed coats which are paired with distressed skinny jeans worn with tweed legwarmers and brogues.

Weather can be a bit unpredictable in Greece!In November we were moaning about the prolonged summer and high temperatures and in March we have a sudden wave of extreme cold and snow!And what's better for treating cold weather than a chunky knit?A colourful chunky knit!

The snowy pics are from my balcony and as you can see I was lucky enough to find a rare moment whenthe sun peeked from the clouds and reflected on the snow making the photos extremely bright.

Hidden in the closet

This is the clutch I was telling you about at my previous post!

Poor thing hidden in my grannys closet, feeling so lonely and neglected!

I just had to take it with me,fill it with my stuff and proudly carry it around.

The leather is still good as new and many people do not believe it's my grandmothers bag!

p.s I haven't given up completely my sewing lessons although I rarely have the time and concentration to sew!

Yesterday I finished my first pillow-case and I will post pics one of these days!

Printed Scarf

Some days ago as I was looking around Zara I saw a clutch bag that looked familiar.

Right away I remembered that my grandmother used to have a bag exactly the same.

So I payed a visit to my grandmothers closet and not only did I discover the bag I was looking for but also found loads of stuff to 'borrow'.One of these things is this scarf I found perfectly folded inside her drawer with her scarf collection.Out of many scarfs this one immediately caught my attention.I love the colours and the print and I cant wait to wear it as a headscarf at summer!

Sweets have always been my weakness and especially cupcakes are one of my favourite choices.

Imagine my delight when I heard that there is a place near my town that has American style Cupcakes!

I had to find out more!!!

So some days ago I visited Hamptons Cupcakes in Kifissia and found the source of amazing cupcakes.

I can seriously say that the awesome smell guided me to the store as it is not visible at first from the street.

The taste and especially the different flavoured frostings are great and are perfect to eat while drinking a cup of coffee after shopping in Kifissia on a Saturday morning.

So if you live in Athens it's worth a visit!

Just be prepared for a difficult decision when ordering as they all look amazing!

I sprinkled my coffee with sugar confetti!!

I really like its rusty orange colour and print and I think it's going to be one of my spring-summer favourites.

Yesterday I saw God Is an Astronaut live at Kyttaro in Athens.God Is an Astronaut is a post-rock band from Ireland which was was formed in 2002 and their name is inspired by a quote from the American horror movie 'Nightbreed'.The concert was opened by Absent Without Leave a Greek musician which you must check out at his myspace page.Fortunately, this time I didn't forget my camera and managed to snap some pictures!
